Chantelle: Why join Facebook

Chantelle: Why join facebook?
Ok Nick, consider the following

- It’s free!

- You can reconnect with people you went to school with/uni with, reinvoking friendships that may have been lost.

- You can keep in contact with current friends on a mass scale. Yes it’s less personal than one to one conversations, but friends get a sense of what is going on with you and you get a sense of what is going on with them.

- It facilitates meeting new people and networking.

- You are in control. You can accept people as friends, block them, ignore them or delete them. You are also in control of how much you want others to see about you or what you want to see about others.

- It’s easy to use and extremely accessible. You can check in via your mobile and have updates sent to your email etc.

- Possibly the most useful element for me is the ability to use facebook as my social calendar. Through facebook you can create, or be invited to, events. Facebook allows you to see who, and how many people, have committed to attending (and thus to avoid the event entirely if people who you don’t want to see are going).

- Related to this facebook reminds you about the upcoming events you have committed to attending and about friend’s upcoming birthdays (therefore preventing the awkward situation when you forget).

Thinking about it, some of these points cross over as to why an enterprise would benefit from using facebook. It can expose them to their consumers, allow them to build relationships and advertise marketing events. In turn it would allow them to target their niche groups, access feedback and to develop their brand and raise its visibility.

Did I mention it’s free?
